Are the four lower red lights on the cables of Golden Gate Bridge in the poster the four dots of the Zodiac's "wide flange beam" symbol?

Dunno, Johno. Doubt it though.

I think the design of the poster is pure excellence.

I agree, although if I didn't know anything about the Zodiac case I might be inclined to think it was a movie about a new social disease.

IMO the poster is excellent. I do see one flaw. The Transamerica Pyramid was not completed in 1969.

Johno, I have wondered about those dots/lights on the bridge before. From a certain angle in Marin, you can somewhat line them up with Twin Peaks.

I agree - I like the poster.
I just hope the movie is good- and doesn't have too many errors.

I noticed that too, Dave... while I have no doubt the movie will have great entertainment value with great acting by the many big name stars, something as small as screwing up the cityscape with the anachronistic inclusion of the Transamerica Pyramid does not bode well for the accuracy of the historical aspect of the movie, and makes one wonder about how accurately the case will be depicted (and we already have a good idea about that based on the publicity photos)...

When was the Transamerica Building finished? If not 1969, I suspect it was done in 1971 or so.

Am I incorrect on this?

Construction began in 1969 and was completed in 1972.

If you really want to nitpick, the Golden Gate Bridge doesn't face the City at quite that angle, the span design of the Bay Bridge is wrong, and Coit Tower is in the wrong spot. So who cares?

As far as the debut date of the Transamerica building, it was during Zodiac's period of activity and that's good enough for me. Beautiful design.

Remember, this movie isn't going to be a documentary. As long as they don't do something irresponsible such as depicting that someone "solved" the case, I'm cool with the film not being 100% accurate.

On accuracy Tom, I feel the same way.

This is a movie, meant for entertainment and trying to draw as many people to the theatres as possible.

I don't expect it to be 100% accurate.

I hope it is a great movie. And I hope that Z views it in person, slips up, and gives away his identity in some way shape or form.

Good points Tom. Actually the Golden Gate Bridge goes into the Presidio, and Coit Tower is too far east and south in the poster. The Transamerica building was completed in 1972.

I agree, I hope the film is good entertainment.

Angie, where have you been?

Being that it's based on Yellowbook's view of the case it probably won't be too accurate- but it should be entertaining !

That version is excellent too! Kinda throws off the wide-flange beam idea, though. The fog adds a great element. It's even spookier than the first one.

Yes, that is excellent. The fog sets it off. The tower sticking up looks like a gun sight, and you still have the 4 red dots/lights on the tower. I want a poster.

Wow, I just hit the jackpot on this Zodiac poster! I'm going to get a giant, 8-foot by 6-foot one! It's made of thick cardboard & is displayed right now in our local movie lobby. And guess what? It's FREE!

Last night I simply asked the movie manager if I could have it after "Zodiac" finishes its run, and he said "Sure."!

Evidently they just throw them away after the run! So he let me tape a note to the back to call me when it's about to be tossed. It's made of thick cardboard & has a folding stand that makes it stand upright!

Can't wait to get this amazing Zodiac collectible.

Some of you may want to try this same gimmick to get your own! Happy Holidays.

Victor

Ya, Ed, it's a gold mine, if you can find it. What I did was get the manager-on-duty's OK to tape a note to the back saying, "Give this poster to Victor after the movie's run. OK'd by Mgr." Then I posted my phone number & Email.

This thing is HUGE & totally professional looking! I can't wait to see the movie. It would be cool if a bunch of us Zodiac-buffs could get together to watch it when it opens. That would be awesome! We could even have a gathering afterwards to discuss how we liked it.

Just an idea.

Actually, the Cityscape looks like it is drawn or taken from the North of San Francisco, probably from the Bay itself to the west of Alcatraz Island. The Golden Gate bridge is superimposed over it. But from that angle it checks out. Not to nitpick. I remember when I used to take BART to the city and just before going into the transbay tube, the Pyramid building looked like it was a really good distance from the Bank of America Building..but they are actually only 2 and 1/2 city blocks apart and very close to each other when you are on say.... Montgomery and Sacramento Streets.
