At long last!

Great trailer. Not what I was expecting though. More upbeat that I would have thought.

Beginning tomorrow, online reports (and sources close to Zodiackiller.com) indicate the trailer will appear prior to showings of the new James Bond film Casino Royale.

Looks great. Don't know if this is the teaser or final....I am guessing a more refined final trailer will be out in the next month and a half. Agree with Tom. More of an upbeat feel but I am confident that this is a sales tactic. I think the film will sucker punch people.

Love the fell and the look. Production design and photography are stellar (as in all Fincher films). Slow it down or do frame by frame and you'll see the ALA interogation scene. Gotta love the flash of the Halloween card falling off Avery's desk.

Downey Jr. and Ruffalo look great.

Thumbs up. I am excited.

My GREATEST hope is that this film aids in the actual investiagtion of the case in any way, shape or form.

The soundtrack and scenery appear to be enough for me to pay to see it. I may be going back to the theater for the first time in 10 or 12 years.

At last this one is the real deal ! I loved the trailer,it gave me chills and took me back to Vallejo 1969. As most of you know I have personal reasons for wanting this killer caught. Maybe this movie will get a response from the "coward killer" Zodiac.

The trailer looks great! I have always said I have no doubt this will be an entertaining film, however, the historical accuracy leaves a lot to be desired. At least they had the good sense to use the disclaimer that it's "based on true events," so as not to confuse it with the facts...

The trailer looks good to me as well. It looks like it may follow the yellowbook closely, which means that the parts concerning the actual commission of the crimes will be fairly close to accurate. It looks like it will follow the book by enhancing the author's involvement in actual events and make him into some kind of hero. As I have always said, the first third of the yellowbook is actually a good narrative of the crimes and early investigation, and gets worse and worse the more the author speculates and contrives to pad the story and make himself look like he was much more involved in things that was the actual case.
Even so, this looks more and more like a good movie and sure to increase interest in the case.

Apparently the trailer is playing before both Deja Vu and Bobby in select cities. However, it is still not available at either the official movie site or Paramount's main site.

Quite odd.

Ed, I have been getting phone calls and emails from people up Tom's way to AZ, about the trailer in their theaters. This movie I think is one even the Zodiac will like. It will show here as well as Martinez, looks like most theaters will be showing it.I will be first in line ! I am glad that you are feeling better.

Thanks, Sandy, I'm feeling just fine now. If Z likes this movie, it'll because it appears to have a generous helping of pure fiction, which means that, like so many who have read that horrendous yellow book, those who watch the movie will have no clue about the truth and will come away thinking the case has actually been solved (I don't know how it ends yet, but I'm willing to bet that's precisely what'll happen, even if it's only through implication)...

Ed, Maybe he will write a letter to make some corrections for the next Z movie. On second thought, the coward would be too afraid to write again. With todays technology, he wouldn't be able to get away with what he did 37yrs ago.

Z won't write if he is still alive. He'll never write another Z letter again. Why in hell would he do that and risk reopening an investigation that no one cares about anymore? The trail's been stone cold for 32 years, and he also saw what happened to Rader last year as well. He's gone the way of Jack the Ripper, the Torso Killer and so many others... he's simply faded away to leave everyone guessing...

I really don't care if Z likes it or not, if he is alive. Maybe he just watches DVD's, and won't see it til later in the year.

I've received a ton of e-mail lately from Christmas movie goers who have seen the trailer playing before various films. Whenever I ask how the audience reacted to the trailer, the answer has always been "they didn't."

Not a good sign for the box office, IMHO.

I don't know Tom. When I saw the trailer the other day before the new "Rocky" movie the theater was packed. When the trailer came on the entire audience started screaming "Yeah! Wahoo!", etc.

They were jumping up & down & hugging each other in tears of joy. Then they all started chanting, "Graysmith! Graysmith! Graysmith!"...

Well, not really. Actually there wasn't much of a reaction at all. But then, it's more of a 'suspense' preview with no real moments to make the audience jump or gasp in horror.

I personally think it is going to catch on Nationwide, due to word of mouth interest. Jake's appearance on SNL Jan 13 should do wonders for promotion.

I went & saw the James Bond movie, Casino Royale a few weeks ago & they showed the Zodiac preview then.

They also showed it before the new Rocky Balboa movie a couple weekends ago.

Since both those movies had massive national promotions, it should give Zodiac a HUGE advance push.

I've watched this trailer several times since it came out. Looks great. As Tom said, it seemed a little bit more upbeat than I would've expected. The music is what I think did that. But I think it was kinda like that for the time period. Very nicely done though I think. March is too far away.

Kathy Johns' abductor as depicted in the movie looked and sounded a lot like Drew Carey. I always thought that Carey would make a splendid Rick Marshall, what with his theatric flair and talent for mimicry.

Yeah, definitely more 'spooky' than the previous previews. Though I can't understand why they don't give us any graphic killing scenes. Only an overhead, split-second beginning to the Blue Rock Springs shooting. And the "Stine murder" just looks like the cabbie is slowly fainting in the dark. Maybe they don't want to spoil it for us. (But I sort of have to laugh when I see the squirrel hanging upside-down in what is surely Arthur Leigh Allens' cage. Images of the infamous 'Arthur Leigh Allen' thong come to mind!).

Vscantu,

"Though I can't understand why they don't give us any graphic killing scenes".

Because it is entirely too graphic to air on television ads on prime time TV on major networks. Likewise, movie previews have to be reviewed and ok by the ratings board before they are shown in theatres.

This is a rated R movie with very graphic scenes and sequences.

Douglas oswell, I heard or read that the z did indeed do that. But that alone could make him a sexual sadist. People have a hard time understanding that a sexual saddest does'nt have to stab breast or female parts to be sexual sadist,I wonder if that will be mentioned in the movie ?

In response to why the trailer isn't more gorey, Dave wrote:

"Because it is entirely too graphic to air on television ads on prime time TV on major networks."

Wait a minute. I've seen jillions of very graphic shooting scenes with plenty of blood on regular TV. This has gone on for many, many years. Granted, the stabbings at Lake Berryessa would be too gorey, but I don't know about the others like Lake Herman Road.

Too gross for prime time TV? I doubt it. Again, I think they just don't want to spoil "the surprise" of each murder. Otherwise when the movie shows, people in each audience would know what is coming. And even worse, at the beginning of a scene, you'd get the loudmouths that ruin it for everyone by saying (loud enough for everybody to hear), "Oh, this is where the 2 teenagers get shot."

Sandy, I believe that was something Robert Graysmith made up in order to compensate for the fact that Zodiac had none of the attributes of a sexual sadist. To my mind, the image of a male masturbating while composing letters in a disguised handwriting is somewhat amusing, to say the least.

The new trailer is MUCH more effective than the theatrical trailer. Maybe fine-tuning the marketing was one of the things that delayed the movie.

As anyone who's watched CSI knows, TV can get quite graphic, but a TV preview for a movie is just supposed to get people curious about seeing the movie, not show the extremes of the movie. I'm sure they don't want the film to be misunderstood to be a slasher flick like Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

They just ran the trailer twice on SciFi tonight. It was better than I had expected. Hopefully the movie will draw more than a niche interest. It has got to be better than Black Dahlia or Summer of Sam. People go to these kind of movies to see the story in the title. They hate it when they're fooled with stories focused on collateral characters.
