I fully admit I have yet to see the film and have no substantial inside knowledge. However, based on published quotes from director David Fincher and others associated with "Zodiac," supposedly they've done incredible research into the case, to the point of accumulating some 2,500 pounds of documents.

Considering the film's hefty budget (said to be in the ballpark of $85 million), I would expect as much. It's pretty easy to buy information. But after perusing the movie's official website, I'm left with this question: Where's the beef?

If Arthur Leigh Allen is their Holy Grail of Zodiac suspects, then as far as I'm concerned the Mother Lode of potentially incriminating info can be seen below in the form of Allen's Calaveras County School District personnel file from 1966-1968 (approx. 35 pages of data).

If Allen were the Zodiac, I can virtually guarantee the proof is in this file. And broke ol' me has it, not the movie people.

No, I didn't have a million-dollar budget, or a team or researchers at my disposal. But I bet the file is more significant than anything the movie people have dug up on Allen.

However, what they have that I don't are some very expensive smoke and mirrors, not to mention dog and ponies...hence my need to post this info in advance.

(I'll be adding other exclusive items to this thread as time permits. Scroll down for more Allen-related goodies.)

Here's another goodie -- Allen's huge Sonoma County file (100% unredacted). I made copies for Ed, but that's it.

Quite doubtful the movie people have this baby!

Are you going to release parts of it on the site, Tom?

I have already, Joanne, but only bits and pieces. I first want to see which approach the movie takes regarding Allen.

Intriguing, Tom.

I didn't recall reading how otherwise punctual Allen had been, which makes his absence on Nov. 1 even stronger cirumstantial evidence. It makes me wonder why Allen, if he was Z, would have acknowledged any connection with Riverside.

I can only hope that the highest bidder on the school information has the best intentions in mind.

I already have that.

you should work with a filmmaker on a documentary project about this case. Your wealth of resources and knowledge of the case should be documented and scrutinized

I already have, Sanfranguns; the project began filming in early 2001.

Within a week or so the trailer will be published at this site along with other details.

Here's some background on Allen's Sonoma County file:

I obtained it in 2001 from a source within the county building. The file documents Allen's 1974 arrest for molesting, including the personal info on the minor victims. The file spans several years until shortly after Allen was released from Atascadero in 1977. It also contains letters Allen wrote, including to a judge.

Fascinating stuff, indeed.

Of course, one of the interesting things about his Calaveras County personnel file is the interesting date on his absence slip, as seen in the pics above.

Of all the dates to miss work...

I might add that since the Sonoma file deals with the sexual assualt of a minor, it's been sealed since 1974.

Just to play the devil's advocate, Tom, it would have been even more interesting had he missed the day immediately after the Bates murder.

I agree, Doug, but perhaps he was already scheduled off the day after. Dunno.

Allen claimed he was in Pomona (near Riverside) when he heard about the Bates murder. That guy sure got around...

Amazing. That absence date sure is a kicker.

When and to whom did ALA make the claim about being in Pomona around the time of CJB's death?

I look forward to the documentary trailer. This is great stuff.

very interesting and exciting documents. even if the movie people had access to them, i wonder if they'd even undertstand the significance. i mean, even after years of this being a labor of love for me, i still haven't put it all together in my head. so i question what people who are researching the case because it's their job can possibly retain.

i agree it's relatively easy to buy info and i suspect that's precisely what has been done by the movie people. makes me wonder what will become of their stuff once the film is on dvd and they've moved on to other projects. it would be a shame if they give it all to yellow book or throw it away, but i figure that's what will happen.

Based on what we've concluded about this flick thus far, I'd say it's 1 pound of printouts from this site and 2,499 pounds of crap from Yellow Book which includes lots of sand from near San Rafael where Allen's ashes were scattered in 1992, LOL...

Allen may have had too much candy from the night before, and went into a diabetic coma lol.

Fincher and company: you screwed the pooch with not signing this guy up! You should talk to Graysmith and ask for your money back on his consulting fees.
