Bryan Hartnell's license plate on his car seems to begin to ask the question.
RUZ040.
Maybe that's why Zodiac wrote on the car door as if to say yes I am.

Hi Johno,
Nice observation, but on p.15 of the police report it says the plate number was 4U2040. It could be read "For You 2040" Z did call the police at 2010 hours(7:10) (P.1 Police Report).
The responding officer was called at 2030, but it looks corrected to 2020? (P.15)

When I first saw the 4U It reminded me of something written on a Valentine, except 2040 isn't 214.

4U2040. 20/40. Maybe Z had 20/40 vision and his glasses were not only genuine but also a gift (4U).

Seriously, Johno has a good point about the Zodiac looking over Hartnell's entire car, not just the door upon which he wrote. After BRS, Zodiac said in part "..you will find the kids in a brown car."

Following his next crime, the Zodiac is more specific, saying, "they were in a white Volkswagen Karmen-Ghia." (As if the car were lodged in a brimming WalMart lot.) This far more detailed vehicle description is interesting when compared to the BRS "brown car" account.

By the way, 2010 hours is 8:40 PM. You subtract 12 hours from military time notation.

Jim what would 7:10 be? Would you add 12 hours to get 1910 hours?

Wouldn't 2030 the time the first responding officer was called be 8:30 then, a difference of 1 hr. and 20 min.? That's a long interval.

According to the Department of Justice report page four, it's RUZ040. Three letters RUZ and three numbers 040.

Trivia using the plate number 4U 2040.
$@“ L @“)$)

If you change the U to it’s alphabet number it’s 21. Now use upper case for the numbers and you get this picture that looks like someone nervous )- parenthesis, watching wrists being tied - “at” symbol. The upper case for 2 on a typewriter was quote marks which look like dark curly hair or eyelashes. There was no “1” key on a typewriter; the small case L was used. L is the upper case for 1 - nose. The upper case 4’s are dollar signs and look like ears.

The links below are a history of the “at” symbol and a demonstration link of its evolution, which looks like tying.

The post is gone now but BTK’s address was 6220. Using upper case you get glasses that looked similar, like he was watching the tying also. ^@@)

Hi tad.
I'm going to repost this since the board was sabotaged.

903 472 568 Code from the "Code Killer" in Blood Work starring Clint Eastwood and written by Michael Connelly P.205(HB) There is no "one" in the code.

Below are the dates written on Hartnell's car door.
12-20-68
7-4-69
9-27-69 6:30
Subtract all the dates as whole numbers from the code in Blood Work and you get this number.
903250262
0262 rearranged is 6220, BTK's address
90325 rearranged is 92503 a Riverside Zip Code.
Cheri was found at 6:30 AM according to the newspaper. Same time except AM written on the door of the car.
Cheri's home address: 4195 Via San Jose Riverside, CA 92504-3054 This is now. I don't know if these zip codes existed in 1969.

There are other zip codes with the same numbers. One is 93502 - Mojave (P.O. Box) California, near Edwards AF Base and Death Valley.
Mojave has an interesting history.

If that plate read 4U 2040, then it was on the wrong vehicle, cuz that would be a pickup truck plate #! All cars back then had 3 letters, 3 numbers. And I don't think "vanity plates" were offered in the 60's.

Don't mean to ramble on but hear are more observations:

There were two 6:30 times in Z history. The time Cheri was found and the time Z had written himself on Hartnell’s door. Z had typed the “Confession Letter” on a typewriter. If we combine and use upper case symbols for the double 6:30 this is what we get:

630630 or in uppercase ^#)^#). Old and New ^#)_#) The underscore is the uppercase 6 on a typewriter and looks like a mouth. (There was no nose cut into Z’s hood from what I could tell. The # sign looks like shaded sunglasses or/and can represent the fence Z had to cross. The fence would be reflected in his glasses.

Z used a footstile over a fence coming from the crime scene. A footstile is like a little bridge or steps to cross over a fence. 6:30 ^#) The upper case symbol for 6 looks like a stile ^ or something that could be over the fence to cross. The # sign is the fence. The parenthesis could represent a separation of the parking lot and state property.

“The parking lot and state property are separated by a fence and a footstile through the fence is located approximately fifteen feet south of the victims vehicle. Footprints were observed leading from the footstile to the passenger door of the victims’ vehicle.” (P.9 DOJ Report)

"90325 rearranged is 92503 a Riverside Zip Code"

Z may have connected his “riverside activity” to Lake Berryessa thru the Ghia Door dates, Donna Lass through the S. Lake Tahoe Zip Code, Mikado Letter (13) and LAT Letter (March 13).

In 1997, there was a zip code of 92503 for Riverside, Ca.. In that year the zip codes for Riverside went from 92501 – 9 and 92513. Riverside’s Z Codes last number go 1- 9, no 0, and 13 The L.A. Times Letter dated March 13 mentions Z’s Riverside activity.

Lotus can be opened with Microsoft Excel.

SS Bill signed August 14, 1935.
“August 14, 1935 The Social Security Act (H.R. 7260, Public Law No. 271, 74th Congress) became law with the President's signature at approximately 3:30 p.m. on a Wednesday.”

March 13, 1971 L.A.Times Letter
Zodiac mentions “riverside activity”
LAT(E) is close to “late” 13 is the last two digits in a Riverside zip code. Zip Codes are supposed to speed up mail. The victim count is now 17.

Pleasanton Zip Code 94566
Napa Zip Code 94558-9

South Lake Tahoe, Nevada 95721
S. Lake Tahoe zip can be rearranged to 92517. This zip code is now a Riverside Zip Code. However, I don’t know if this was S. Lake Tahoe’s Zip Code in 1970.
In 1967, Lake Elsinore is after Riverside as 92530. It's near Riverside AND Los Angeles and has a Riverside Dr..

By golly, that plate DOES read 4 U 2040. Wonder if it was a vanity plate of its time?
