Not too much about Z, actually. There were 4 stories going on: Nash's father Nick moved in with him and his daughter and let her have a party and get drunk, his partner Joe Dominguez (Cheech Marin) was busy posing as a courier to bust yuppie drug smugglers and found himself at the receiving end of a domme's whip, Lt. Shimamura (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa) didn't get his promotion to captain and decided to retire, and then there was the Z story. It was fun, but not very accurate (turns out Washington was a small alley off Cherry Street). Nash knew right away it was a copycat, and one of the cops who was formerly on the case actually said:

The original Zodiac selected his victims by drawing quadrants from the radius that had an anchor point on Mt Diablo.

Nash flashed the yellow book at one point, and it's obvious the writer was familiar with Penn as well, since the copycat Z had a map of the Bay Area with what appeared to be a radian on Mt D...
