Pulp Fiction is the absolute worst movie I have ever been conned into wasting my hard-earned $$$ to watch (I have my buddy Dan to thank for that!). I would never have chosen to waste my life seeing it, but he told me the critics liked it... and that just reminded me why I never pay any attention to critics. They're nothing more than failed writers who don't know jack about anything... especially movies.

Ughh... I'll never get those wasted hours back. Ever...

Concur with Ed. I fail in all respects to see how anybody could like that movie. I guess I'm past my prime, but I just don't get it (loved the soundtrack, though, especially the Dick Dale stuff).

The actors did a great job with the garbage they were given to act. The story was so stupid and poor that the only way to get anyone's attention was to break it up into several parts, toss them up in the air, then pick them up at random and string them together. And for that, Quentin Tarantino was regarded as a genius. He's a talentless, mediocre writer at best.

Pulp fiction is one of the worst for me as well. Cable guy, Ace ventura 1 and 2. Spanglish, little nicky. I've seen far more stupid movies than good ones.

Home Alone was terrible, and ET the only good part was when it died.

I rented a movie called "Stalingrad," which was supposed to reveal the horrors of war. Not that I have any doubts that war is horrible, but the movie was in German, and my daughter and I wanted to use it as a learning tool. Unfortunately, the accents were so thick and the sound quality was so bad that neither of us could make out a single sentence ... that is until one of the characters, in the middle of a horrific battle scene cried out, "Ich habe in mein hosen geschissen!" We both caught that one and had a great laugh. But the rest of the movie was so bad we nearly had to fumigate the house afterward.

That is quite a list, Johno. I have not seen some of those, but Urban Cowboy and The Big Chill are on my favorites list.

I thought Valley of the Dolls was extremely boring.

I like alot of the films on your list from the 50's Johno. I would much rather see a under or no budget film than a big Hollywodd Fiasco. Hollywood takes a really good TV show and turns it into a really crappy movies and spends millions of dollars. PU.

The suits apparently think the viewing audience is composed of morons, so all they have to do is "write" a script, fill it with 4 letter words and have lots of sex and explosions, pay no-talent actors $20,000,000 to star in it, slap the few scenes together, and the unwashed masses will flock to see it and they'll make a killing at the box office. They did that with Gigli, and then blamed text and/or instant messaging as the reason it flopped (ie, as soon as people saw it and got home, they'd IM their buddies and warn them it was crap and to save their $$$). As is typical of such people, instead of taking responsibility for the crap they produce and attempting to make a better product that people will actually want to see, they blame the very people who refuse to watch their crap. Just goes to show how hopelessly out of touch Hollyweird is with reality.

Johno, of the films on your list I agree with most of those I have seen regardingl how bad they are. The only disagreements are The Magic Christian and The Big Chill. I will admit to the erros of Magic Christian but my wife and I are such fans of Peter Sellers we like any movie he is in just to see his performance.
For me the worst movies are the big budget films made by writers and directors who have shown talent in other films. Some that come to mind: Raise the Titanic, Hooper, The Village, Lost in Space, and others I will recall later but were so bad I have repressed the memory! What the HELL were these people thinking?

I love Peter Sellers. Great comedian and a great actor. He couldn't save The Magic Christian though.
The best character in The Big Chill was Alex who killed himself setting the implausable film in motion. If only the other characters would have did the same they could have spared the viewer two hours of this self-absored triviality.
Great soundtrack though.
Kevin Costner as a dead guy was the best acting of his career.

To me the Big Chill was the big boring, I never understood what all the hype was. Valley of the Dolls is an early chick flick.. guys aren't supposed to like it. I liked parts of Cable guy.

Madonna movies are real bad--Desperately Seeking Susan, and Evita. --I mentioned Waterworld before, and how bad it stunk. It put Kostner in his downward spiral, IMO.

Valley of the Dolls is a chick movie? That's news to me. Cable Guy was an early guy flick. I'm surprised you got into it!

I am a huge fan of Pulp Fiction, so i have to disagree with everybody on that one. It's one of my alltime fav's.

Worst Films

I hated Mission Impossible. The first one. It was terrible to have the Peter Graves character from the TV show be the bad guy at the end. It was a complete role reversal. It would be akin to having Captain Kirk turn out to be the villian in a Star Trek film.

The other bad one I saw recently was Vanilla Sky. Oh my god! The ending was so stupid. It was laughable.

I guess I'm not a big Tom Cruise fan.

Tom Cruise was in Vanilla Sky? I didn't notice. All I was looking at was Penélope Cruz.
Remakes are never as good as the original. Check out the original 1997 film "Abre los ojos" by director Alejandro Amenábar. Penélope Cruz plays Sofia in that one too.

With all due consideration, Johno, this thread is not about Penelope. If she's such a great actress, besides her bod, how come I have never watched a movie with her in it? Are you saying that she is one of the worst actresses?

She's a great actress. The majority of her films are European, especially Spanish. You probably don't watch much foreign films.
I really liked her in the Italian film Non ti mouvere.
I'm sure she's been in a few bad ones. She made a lot of movies.
