Allen's taped voice Message Board: Arthur Leigh Allen: Allen's taped voice

By Mike B ( - on Tuesday, September 05, 2000 - 05:24 pm:

Does anyone know if a tape exists of Zodiac's telephone calls to the police and if tapes do exist, were they compared to Allen's voice?

By Ed N. ( - on Tuesday, September 05, 2000 - 10:00 pm:

If a voiceprint of Z speaking to VPD ever existed, it has long since vanished.

How about the phone call to Oakland PD? Saying he wanted to speak to Belli, on Jim Dunbar's show? I watched that show some 30 years ago. Someone said it sounded too young for Zodiac. A police officer said maybe it was THE SON OF Zodiac! This was a few years before anyone even heard of Son Of Sam. Oddly enough Z and Son of Sam were very much alike! Killed on holidays, near water ,shot on passenger side of car, notes written to press and police, same amount of victims Z claimed in a row "7". Wording in notes very close to z's __like : I am very hurt "by" your calling me a wemon(sic) hater. He also used the word "shall":-----Perhaps we shall meet face to face someday. Z kept very still here in Cal. during that time 76- 77. First letter in four years 4/24/78 .Its a interesting read, the book is called "The Ultimate Evil". Darlene once worked in N.Y.while she was with Jim Phillips.Funny, Darlene was in every area at some time, that had Z like killings just before she died, and shortly after.

Again sandy has some very good points.I believe very strongly Sandy that the Son of Sam was very much inspired by the Zodiac. But like the other New York Zodiac, he wasn't smart enough not to be caught. The zodiac/not Zodiac that called the tv show called himself Sam. Could it be that the Son Of Sam either saw that broadcast or read about it? Very likely. Its so obvious he followed in the Zodiacs steps, but....He quite didn't get it right.

Just a quick note to make sure everyone on this board doesn't believe Son Of Sam acted alone. Everyone here should read the ULTIMATE EVIL by Terry. The similarities are not between Zodiac and Berkowitz, but between Zodiac and the cult behind the Son Of Sam slayings. Maybe this should raise questions about the possibility of more than one person being involved with Zodiac. Just a thought.

By Ed N. (Edn) ( - on Friday, October 27, 2000 - 10:17 am:

That's been discussed before, and it doesn't seem likely. While many of those who have read Maury Terry's The Ultimate Evil have suggested that we give it a miss because of its typical wild-eyed satanic conspiracy theories, I doubt that Berkowitz acted alone. Unsolved Mysteries did a segment on the Son of Sam murders many years back, and pointed out the impossibility of Berkowitz acting alone based on one of the murders. Even then, that's not enough for me to read Terry's book.

I never knew anyone actually said "Son of Zodiac." It seemed to me Graysmith proposed that someone was joking around with the idea of Son of Zodiac by using the name Sam on the Dunbar show. I thought this might have just been an error on Graysmith's part.

How could the VPD be so stupid as to LOSE the Zodiac phone conversations??????

By Ed N (Ed_N) ( - on Tuesday, June 12, 2001 - 02:52 pm:

That's assuming that such a recording actually existed in the first place.

What ever happened to Z's phone call to the Oakland P.D.
I remember when that happened because my father told me about it before it hit the newspapers because my late dad was an inspector on the OPD when the phone call occurred.

Bruce: how do we know that it was really Z who called OPD? Did the cop who took the call actually hear Z's voice before? That would be no. The only people positively known to have heard Z speak were Nancy Slover, David Slaight, and Bryan Hartnell, and since none of them took that call at 2:00 AM on 10-22-1969, we cannot be certain that it was Z who actually made that call. Chances are, it was a hoax. But I bet Z got a kick out of the whole farce.

By Classic (Classic) ( - on Tuesday, June 12, 2001 - 10:27 pm:

What about Officer Foukes? It seems that he spoke to Z after the killing of Stine. Classic

By Ed N (Ed_N) ( - on Tuesday, June 12, 2001 - 10:30 pm:

Maybe he did, maybe he didn't... it's impossible to be certain now without getting it straight from the horse's mouth. In any case, he couldn't have exchanged more than a few words with him if they did speak.

By Howard Davis (Howard) ( - on Wednesday, June 13, 2001 - 01:33 am:

It is entirely possible that Johns heard Zodiac's voice during a longer period of time than any of the previous witnesses -at least that's my view.

Also,a male caller claiming to be the Zodiac spoke to an employee at the Palo Alto times 10/20/69 at around 6:30 PM(the same time that was written on Hartnell's car door).

Far Out Time. If Zodiac was a 2 man deal then was the Vallejo and LB caller the killer? In fact any of the other calls could have been an accomplace!

That leaves Hartnell, Foukes and Johns that could have heard the Zivine voice speaking!

Told ya it was Far Out Time! By Uncle Zoward
