Did Z really send police "astray"?

Zodiackiller.com Message Board: General Zodiac Discussion: Did Z really send police "astray"?

By Jennifer (Jackyl1) (164.157212.uia.net - 157.22.212.164) on Monday, March 19, 2001 - 01:00 pm:

Zodiac gloated in a letter that two cops "made a goof" after he killed Stine since they waved him over to their car and inquired whether he had seen any suspicious looking individuals in the area. He then said that he told them a man was waving a gun, etc., then they "peeled rubber" to head out looking for this man.
I have read that the police officially denied this declaration, er, excuse me, that the Zodiac "even claimed" this happened as if it were impossible. I am not intending to knock the cops, but is there any reason to believe that the two police officers lied because they felt stupid for screwing up the only chance they ever had to capture Z? Jenn

I seem to have more of a problem with the dispatcher who sent out the call that the
suspect was a black male.I wonder why that
happened regardless of the Zebra Killings
that had taken place that was unexcusable
derelection of duty.Zodiac had to thank his
lucky stars for that one because there is no
way he could have planned the police arrival
when they stopped him.My question is how far
away was he from the police car when question
ed by the police'surely there would have been
some trace of the murder he'd just committed
if he was close enough for the police to see
him.

The Zebra murders didn't start until 1974. If Zodiac held Stine's head in his lap while he rifled through Stine's pockets he would be covered in blood. If he was wearing dark clothing at night and the police weren't shining a flashlight on him they may not notice the blood.

Zelms and Foukes are probably lucky that the dispatcher got it wrong. z is walking down the street with a loaded gun and the cops pull up... somehow I don't think he would have gone quitely.

The cops wouldn't have standed a chance, as Z had the jump on them. Z was a pretty cool customer if you look at the evidence carefully.
I have been to the Stine site several times, but I can never figure out where it was that Z was alleged to have hidden himself while watching the cops conduct their "drag races". Perhaps it was just Z's intent to mock the cops by using what he knew of procedure and the location itself.
Is there anyone who has visited the site who has reason to believe that they have a good idea as to where Z would have situated himself?

"Standed," Oscar? What is it you drink again?

In the meantime, Z could have hidden himself in someone's backyard to watch SFPD's antics that night, or maybe he broke into someone's house. One idea I had a few years back was that he hid himself in the sewer (or whatever is under that manhole cover a short distance east of the Julius Kahn playground)...

The one thing I'd like to know is if Z was heading east along Jackson, with Foukes and Zelms heading the same way, and Z turned as if to go into a residence, it sounds like he turned right and was heading south. Why then, when they got the amended description, did they turn and head into the Presidio in the opposite direction (ie, north)?

Maybe they did not see him do that at all. They may have lied after realizing that they let him get away. Jenn

Jenn: at this point, anything is possible. Only Foukes can really clear things up, if anyone can find him, and if he's willing to tell the story as it actually happened...

Foukes died recently, according to Mike R. He had been in Florida working with kids or something.

Dear EdN,
Excuse the grammatical error, but I was reeling from a stiff combination of vicodin and about 6 tall glasses of Genny Cream Ale. I had a root canal earlier the same day, so I was heavily "tranquilized". However, i dare say that it was a pretty impressive feat, considering that most people would be in the hospital getting a stomach pump.
You are just pissed about the Buddha remark. Chill! (sing)"I will always love you"..

Recipe for Genny Cream Ale:

1 gallon small beer
1 porcelain pot

Drink the beer. Wait approximately thirty minutes. Serves two.
