Task-Force Meeting FEEDBACK

Zodiackiller.com Message Board: General Zodiac Discussion: 2002 Zodiackiller.com Task-Force Meeting: Task-Force Meeting FEEDBACK

By Tom Voigt (Tom_Voigt) (12-224-178-109.client.attbi.com - on Friday, July 05, 2002 - 08:11 pm:

I feel the event was very rewarding, although I didn't get to mingle with non-media participants as much as I would have liked.

By Gregusjay (Gregusjay) (12-234-233-242.client.attbi.com - on Friday, July 05, 2002 - 07:42 pm:

I had a great time at the gathering and took some really nice pics! I picked up a nice video (that I am still watching) and swapped theories with Ed, some reporters and unfortunately didn't get to speak with Tom as much as I liked....He was understandably busy fielding questions from throngs of reporters that attended.
Howard Davis and White Rabbitt expoused their theory about Bruce Davis, and I learned some very interesting things. One of the most fascinating things was the story about Cecelia Sheppard being taken out to the Mikado by a mysterious date. I believe more on this is somewhere on this message board..
I think this was a very constructive meeting and
I am still weeding through theories and suspects.
One thing I am sure of is that Zodiac went through extremes to prove he committed the murders....almost to the point that it makes you wonder why was he so consumed by this??? Was someone else writing the letters and someone else doing the killing?? Anyway, as I sift through the all the evidence and look at new suspects and theories, one thing for sure is this gathering and Tom's website are crucial to finding out what really happened. It keeps things open and fresh in people's minds.

By Clark Kent (Clark) (test2.pacinfo.com - on Friday, July 05, 2002 - 09:09 pm:

I had a fantastic time. I have so many new bits of information to explore, and I hope I was also able to add something to the discussion. I also bonded strongly with quite a few people, and I hope to keep in touch with you. (Diane B., I'd like to email you; contact me if you'd like) You've all inspired me!
One thing that impressed me was how serious everybody was about this. I was thrilled with the mutual level of respect for everyone, even when opinions and theories differed.
Tomorrow I will start exploring some of this information, and will begin contacting some of you personally. I promise to post here more often, too. :-)
It is my hope that we have made some headway in the case due to this meeting. There's so much to process, but I think some of this new (to me) information may lead to something.
Ed, if Tom is serious about not returning to Vallejo, it looks like its up to you to plan something for next year. (I bet if you build it, Tom will come.) I know there were a number of people (Pam, Doug, Steve Baldino) who wanted to come, but were unable to make it for one reason or another.
On my way back to SF Airport on the 5th, I passed the Embarcadero; right off Townsend at the waterfront was a building with a large "Zodiac" banner (presumably the company that makes the watch) in the window. I thought it was a fitting "zynchronicity" to end my trip.

I agree! (Clark, I hope to be hearing from you soon.) Highlights: Ed's delightful Z tours, speaking with Sharon (who was friends with Leigh Allen), connecting with others & developing friendships. Hearing Howard and White Rabbit's discussion about the Manson family. Ohhhh, and much, much, more. Everything!

By Kendra (Kendra) (pluto.cds1.net - on Saturday, July 06, 2002 - 12:37 am:

P.S. to Clark- I can't find your email address, could you email me so I can contact you? (I hope I gave you my email address)

By Howard Davis (Howard) (ont-cvx1-24.linkline.com - on Saturday, July 06, 2002 - 02:25 am:

My hat,er hood ,is off to Tom for a fantastic conference.Others had a hand,er glove in the conference and it turned out great. Thanks!
It made history in the Zodiac case!It was an ingenious concept mainly developed by Tom V. and I felt proud to be his friend and just another poster on this amazing Board with a lot of great posters to learn from.
I am zevived and will really do more hardcore Z research.
It was great meeting some of the posters and others that have an interest in this complex case.I will be discussing my conversations with some of the attendees. But time for some R&R,er Z&Z!

One thing that is NOW a must. We`must focus on the case and avoid arguing and 'name calling' as we now know for certain there is a huge audience consisting of hundreds of thousands of people from all walks of life out there and many are professionals ,so we must be 'professional.'We can have fun,but the case and not personalities, must predominate our discussions.
If I have offended anyone in the past I apoligize.I know I have faults as a poster, so I will try to improve and show more respect to all of you. This is the worlds top ranking Zodiac site and we all need to treat it and each other that way. There are more eyes on this site than a Zodiac Halloween card!
Forgive the lecture-it was spoken to me too!I think I was speaking for all of us,especially after the conference.
Happy Independence Day weekend!

It was an interesting day with some very interesting conversations. I hope there will be others in the future, perhaps with a bit less media frenzy. Lurking on the sidelines and listening to others discuss the case was really fascinating.

Thanks for your hard work, Tom.

The meeting turned out to be great! I had a wonderful time and met alot of interesting people. I also learned new things in this case from people that knew some of the victims and suspects.

I don't believe Tom exaggerated when he said 100 people were there. I believe there were more people there. I later learned names of people that had attended the meeting that I had no idea was there until after they had gone. The media literally attacked everyone for several hours and it was hard to get around and be able to meet and talk to everyone.

I will be looking forward to the next meeting.

By Esau (Esau) (12-246-187-137.client.attbi.com - on Sunday, July 07, 2002 - 10:31 am:

I was a little freaked out by the all the news cameras, newspaper cameras and undercover cops (who tried their best to look nonchalant). After I got over the initial shock I loosened up and had a lot of fun. I was surprised at how many teenaged girls were there. I don't recall seeing very many teenaged boys. I wonder what the attraction is for whatever this generation is called (is it generation "Y"?). White Rabbit was a trip. I was wondering why he would be so vocal until I saw his post about offering a book he wrote. Now I'm a little skeptical since there appears to be money involved. I didn't get a chance to talk to every person there. Maybe next time. I'll be there.

By Kendra (Kendra) (pluto.cds1.net - on Sunday, July 07, 2002 - 12:30 pm:

I was also surprised at how many teen-aged girls were there. "I doubt the Zodiac is alive, and if he is, he's such a lame-o because he couldn't get his M.O. straight" and "You never know, a bomb could go off or something and I wanted to be here if it happened" (both quotes from late teenagers as appeared in the Fairfield Daily Republic.)Ahhh..I remember when I was a teenager...

I had a great time on the 4th!

I promised Victoria and Chalandra that I would cleanup some of my language but they both just laughed. Both are very sweet ladies with a lot to offer to this case.

Esau, I'm sorry we didn't get more time to talk! It seems that we had a lot in common and I was very glad to meet you.

Clark Kent was almost as tall as me! Again, I didn't get to talk to you as much as I would have liked but please start posting more often.

Roger, you are a brilliant mind and I was very impressed with your knowledge! It was good to spend some time with you and please increase the amount of posts; you have a lot to offer! BTW, you and Tom still owe me beers!

Mike Kelleher, I'm sorry we didn't meet. I hope my size didn't frighten you? LOL. Perhaps next time.

Kendra, it was wonderful meeting you also. As with Roger and Clark, do us all a favor and post more often.

White Rabbitt, what can I say, dude? It was great hanging out with you and I'll be in touch soon.

Tom, Ed, Howard, Sandy, John, the pleasure was all mine. Thanks for your generosity and your companionship. New friendships have been forged and I can't wait to get together again.

Finally, for everyone else who attended on the 4th, thanks very much. Caroline, Leo, Diane, and everyone else, thanks for sharing with us your knowledge and insights.

I agree, sorry I missed you. I was lurking.

Hopefully, this will happen again soon and we can all chat a bit.

Clark, you forgot to tell about the bomb that went off next to my car, on our way back to Antioch. I was told that it would have to be a M 1000 to be that large and shake the car! Well it was as good as it gets, as far as learning more about this case. I enjoyed talking to all of you, and spending what little time I had off camera. I hope I didn't spook any of you with the copy of the z costume that was found behind the back seat of my car in Napa 1969. I made sure all of the relatives of the victims had gone, before I put it on. I wanted to show that even a short person would look much taller than 5ft 8 or 9 with that hood on. I hope Tom will post a picture of it! I am looking forward to the next meeting, hope to see even more people with viable information, who for what ever reason didn't give it to the Detectives at that time. I can vouch for them ,that they are human.

This is my first posting on the message board! I'm from Vallejo, and I've had a passing interest in the Zodiac case because he's an urban legend here. I went to the task force meeting not knowing what to expect. It was very informative. The media coverage almost scared me away, but I got the nerve to walk up there. I had read the Graysmith books accepting them as gospel, but after talking to the participants, I have second thoughts. White Rabbit's talk of the Manson family was very interesting. I enjoyed hearing the different theories of Zodiac's identity, though I had some skepticism. My only connection to the case is that my mother was on the Vallejo High swimming team with Leigh Allen. I'm glad I went because I learned alot about the case, and all the participants were very friendly. Maybe we can do this again sometime.

I thought it was awesome! We didn't get to do everything we intended, the media kind of moved in and took up a lot of well-spent time with us. I'm sorry I missed Carolyn Shepard and Mike Kelleher, and most of Sandy's and Linda's conversation, but, all in all, I think a good time was had by all; it's hard to believe we were there for nearly 10 hours! It was interesting talking briefly with Kenny Kilgore; I must say that his suspect (stepdad) looks like the composite, and his idea on the radian theory was interesting, but the same can be said for the other major suspects as well.

As for the regs who attended: it was great meeting you all for the first (and hopefully not the last) time. Next get-together, with little or no media coverage, I think we'll have an even better time!

I am new to the group. I have been reading the message board for quite awhile. I thought the Task Force meeting was good. Too many reporters for my taste, it seemed to inhibit the group a bit. I met a few people, Clark introduced himself as did Scott. I felt a bit out of place, the people who are regular contributors had a lot to talk about. I only stayed a couple of hours. I bought a video, which my VCR proceed to eat after 40 minutes!

I will continue to read and get myself up to speed before I throw my .02 in.

I did want to say thanks to Tom and everyone else who helped put the event together.

White Rabbit, you didn't offend me. I just don't know you that well yet and was skeptical. I listened to what you had to say and I was very interested. In this day and age the almight buck is an ever present motivator. In light of what you posted I take back what I said. I hope to see you again and talk with you one on one. Take care.

Hello, everyone!

I am new to the group, also. I appreciated the task force meeting so much. I was fascinated by having the opportunity to talk with people about their different theories. A lot of ideas to mull over!

It seems to me that the good-natured enthusiasm of the task force participants is fitting in contrast to the negative emotions that the Zodiac tried to inspire!

Thanks, Tom! I hope you will have another meeting in the future.

Oh, Scott, I think I owe you and Marcus a couple of beers for the lift home, too!

And, White Rabbitt, you sure have some wonderful anecdotes!

Rick from San Francisco

Rick: I hope you liked the tour of the PH crime scene. If we had more time (or if it wasn't so late!), I'd've taken you all around to other notable sites, such as Stine's old place, etc. Maybe next time...
