By Tom Voigt (Admin) (12-224-139-118.client.attbi.com - 12.224.139.118) on Wednesday, December 25, 2002 - 02:01 am:

I've posted the Vallejo Police Department's report on the suspect Graysmith called "Andy Walker."

Here's a link.

By Esau (Esau) (12-246-187-137.client.attbi.com - 12.246.187.137) on Wednesday, December 25, 2002 - 08:25 am:

Thanks Tom. There was an article in the Chronicle about 10 or 11 years ago that talked about this suspect. There was a murder in the desert outside of Las Vegas in the 70's. A girl was abducted from a party and later found murdered. The girl's boyfriend later ran into the suspect at a bar and called the police. I don't recall the outcome.

Actually, that was about Kane. "Walker" hasn't yet made the papers.

By Ed N. (Ed_N) (acbf5ef0.ipt.aol.com - 172.191.94.240) on Wednesday, December 25, 2002 - 02:39 pm:

That was Dana Lull in April 1974, and the boyfriend's name was Roy Tophigh; she was abducted right out of his car at gunpoint. The bar was just a few blocks from where Kane apparently lived in 1974. It's still unsolved as far as I know.

For those of you who aren't familiar with "Andy Walker," he was one of three suspects featured in a yellow Zodiac book.

By Esau (Esau) (12-246-187-137.client.attbi.com - 12.246.187.137) on Thursday, December 26, 2002 - 08:57 am:

If a police report is part of public domain why don't you give us his real name? I'd like to put his name into Yahoo and see what I could dig up.

By William Baker (Bill_Baker) (lsanca1-ar16-4-47-000-068.lsanca1.elnk.dsl.genuity.net - 4.47.0.68) on Thursday, December 26, 2002 - 09:25 am:

Police reports that are a part of an unsolved case are not in the public domain, and disclosure of information from them is at the discretion of the issuing agency, often with the concomitant approval of the prosecutor's office, to safeguard the success of the investigation and any subsequent prosecution.

And anyway, in this case putting the suspect's real name into Yahoo will draw precisely 15,900,000 hits (not an exaggeration, I just tried it).

Back from the dead,

Roger

That's funny. I tried it and got only nine on Yahoo and an equal number on Google with his name in quotation marks. Sans quotes, I found only 768,000 hits in various forms.

By Tom Voigt (Tom_Voigt) (12-224-139-118.client.attbi.com - 12.224.139.118) on Thursday, December 26, 2002 - 12:10 pm:

Brian, the suspect's name isn't really "Andy Walker"; what Roger searched for was his real name.

Roger, glad you're back. And all it took was posting 200 pages of new documents!

By Brian_D (Brian_D) (sdn-ap-013txhousp0006.dialsprint.net - 63.190.128.6) on Thursday, December 26, 2002 - 01:15 pm:

Tom, thanks for your reply. I used William Joseph "X". Btw, it's a little interesting that Darlene would list the name of her ex in her address book. I thought she was afraid of him.

By Brian_D (Brian_D) (sdn-ap-013txhousp0006.dialsprint.net - 63.190.128.6) on Thursday, December 26, 2002 - 01:27 pm:

Sorry about naming him. Saw it listed in ithe General Discussion Board and thought it was copacetic.

By Tom Voigt (Tom_Voigt) (12-224-139-118.client.attbi.com - 12.224.139.118) on Thursday, December 26, 2002 - 01:47 pm:

Brian, it's no problem. Now that I think about it, his name has already been published in a Napa newspaper. Sorry, Esau!

By Warren (Warren) (w205.z064002105.hou-tx.dsl.cnc.net - 64.2.105.205) on Thursday, December 26, 2002 - 03:17 pm:

For those with superior knowledge of the names, are there any nuggets in the address book? BTW, looked under the "K"s, didn't see Ted's number.

By Tom Voigt (Tom_Voigt) (12-224-139-118.client.attbi.com - 12.224.139.118) on Thursday, December 26, 2002 - 10:15 pm:

"Andy Walker" was not mentioned in Darlene's address book.

By Ed N. (Ed_N) (acbe8626.ipt.aol.com - 172.190.134.38) on Thursday, December 26, 2002 - 11:36 pm:

Sorry, Brian, I edited "Walker's" true surname out as soon as I spotted it; as I recall, only his surname was published in that particular Napa paper, as Tom mentioned. It was also posted here a couple of times as well, but without his first and middle names.

By Tom Voigt (Tom_Voigt) (12-224-139-118.client.attbi.com - 12.224.139.118) on Friday, December 27, 2002 - 01:28 am:

Ah, what the hell:
"Andy Walker" is a guy named WILLIAM JOSEPH GRANT.

What a revelation! Tom, I've forgotten...how many of Graysmith's original suspects are still alive? Are their whereabouts all still known?

By Ed N. (Ed_N) (acad5f61.ipt.aol.com - 172.173.95.97) on Friday, December 27, 2002 - 07:21 pm:

Yay!!! Now we don't have to call William Joseph Grant "Andrew Todd Walker" anymore. He's apparently still alive at 82 and lives in Fairfield.

Have they done a DNA test on "Andy Walker" Grant to rule him in or out? The age seems about right as I think Zodiac needed to have been close to 40 at the time to have the "wisdom," or shall I say "street smarts," to know how to run such a perverse operation!

By Carolyn (Carolyn) (dialup-65.58.220.182.dial1.portland1.level3.net - 65.58.220.182) on Saturday, December 28, 2002 - 02:33 am:

Actually, the word is neither "wisdom" or "street smarts." It's experience and skill. The man had been around awhile to learn how to be so manipulative and cunning. Of course they didn't have all the crime investigative techniques in those days; he probably would have been caught today.

By Esau (Esau) (12-246-187-137.client.attbi.com - 12.246.187.137) on Saturday, December 28, 2002 - 08:10 am:

This guy looks really good. I'm leaning towards him or Teddy K now.

Teddy Kennedy? Thought he had been cleared. But you know, Hartnell said his attacker's accent was familiar.

Although there IS that water connection (Chapaquitik, sp?) with Tedward Kennedy...

By Esau (Esau) (12-246-187-137.client.attbi.com - 12.246.187.137) on Monday, December 30, 2002 - 12:19 pm:

I'm now doubting that Teddy Kennedy is Zodiac. None witness' descriptions mention a red, swollen, alcoholic's nose and Zodiac was seen wearing all of his clothes. Kennedy's MO is to let the woman drown. This is too non-confrontational for Zodiac.

By Warren (Warren) (w205.z064002105.hou-tx.dsl.cnc.net - 64.2.105.205) on Monday, December 30, 2002 - 01:37 pm:

I guess in retrospect Z couldn't be Ted Kennedy. Ted was more of an East coast perp and I can't see him hiding a bomb in the basement at Hyannis Port without other members of the extended litter finding it. Plus, to drive from Mass to Calif and back making speeches at every rest stop just isn't going to fit in any timeline. I'll shut up now.

By Tom Voigt (Tom_Voigt) (12-224-139-118.client.attbi.com - 12.224.139.118) on Monday, December 30, 2002 - 01:40 pm:

One of the reasons certain investigators liked Grant was because an FBI interpretation of a Zodiac cipher could read "William Granihan", or something to that effect.

In Graysmiths book, he tells a story about Grant harassing a cop and playing a "game" with him along the freeway. Is this true or just a figment of graysmith's imagination?

In the report, Grant is identified as the one who was harrassing Darlene Ferrin. Seems like just about everyone of the big 5 has been identified as harassing her.

For me, Grant and Marshall are my two favorites, with Marshall leading by a nose. Whether he is z or not, there is something very strange about Grant. His being at the Juan Corona trial is intriguing. Gathering intel in case he got caught? Having 4 different identities. No know place of employment for 2 years. Something is fishy in Denmark. opps, my mistake. No known place of employment for 5 years. Identified as being at LB and the witness who identified him was killed in an explosion 10 days later. Hmm Instead of bombing a bus maybe z....Classic

Wasn't he the guy who also lived in an area surrounded by pine trees. An area also prone to flooding.
