Hi. My name is Jim Nelson. I'm the editor of Howard Davis' book "The Zodiac/Manson
Connection." I'm posting this message to let you know that soon (hopefully) I will be
taking over maintaining the web site for our book. And also to let you know that my Email
address that is currently on the site is no longer valid. Instead it should read: hjnelson@iwlink.com
If you have sent anything in the past to the old address I apologize for not getting back
to you.
Lastly I will say that I am a firm believer in "The Zodiac/Manson Connection"
but for most of the discussion regarding this hypothesis I will defer to Howard. I just
wrote the book using his research.

Paul:You wouldn't,but he did -that's his right and besides he didn't brag he was just
stating his involvement in the project.I have known Jim for many years and he is anything
but a braggart.
He is a very fine computer programmer.Next time let's see some facts not some negative
infantile comment fit for the cranial vault of a sixth grader. We're all adults here.

For the record, this book is very interesting and informative. I recommend all those
fascinated by Zodiac and/or Manson et al to order a copy and read it. My only wish is that
there would have been more personal history on Davis, his childhood, teenage years,
parents backgrounds, psychological profile. This would help immensely if we are to picture
Davis as Zodiac.
The book prodded me to go on a quest for more Davis info, and it is difficult to find.
Most of the books on Manson mention Davis, but gloss over any personal data.
Howard, there is no doubt you have a potentially very strong suspect, where can we get
more background and personal insights? Particularly, I want to know what his interpersonal
relationships with women were.

Sylvie,
Summary time on Davis. In his youth he had a 'brain injury with severe inflammation and
high fever for some time -with an attending surgury. My feeling is that it affected his
personality-possibly frontal lobe/limbic complications.
In high school we find him stocky and short of stature. We interviewed some people that
knew him and we find that Bruce(called himself Ivan in the yearbook-the right hand man for
Count Zaroff!)was not popular with the girls. When a girl that Davis had known in school
read the typed Riverside missive she exclaimed 'I was that blue eyed brunette(brownette in
original)that said no to him when he asked for a date'!She was aware Davis was a suspect
in the case.He had anger towards women not just because of continual rejection, but also
feelings of hatred towards his mother.
Davis wrote in the yearbook of a fellow student 'It has been an uneventful year maybe
something will happen to change that'.It was intended to be sinister and kind of scared
the student.I personally feel he was fantasying about killing someone. He won a scholastic
award.
He was considered an 'atheist and an angry young man'.In reports at home his father-who
was an alcoholic-greatly abused him both verbally and physically, and his mother,
according to Davis, did not really defend him and it conflicted him immensely ,and he
'developed deep seated anger and an inferiority complex',etc. His sister told us "mama
sent Bruce out to do terrible things"-just what we don't know.
Two men raped him at different periods in his school days one of whom was a teacher that
he trusted as a father figure.
He became Editor (I always think of "Dear Editor")in Chief(probably to
compensate for his inferior feelings) of his high school yearbook and one former staff
member that worked under him said that he did 'type on a Royal typewriter.'At some point
he was a coach for Little League baseball(I think of S.F.-0 ,Z- 17+)(to deal with his
fathers distant stance as he was always working and travelling-to give the boys some of
what he lacked-attention.Davis travelled to CA in '63 and made his way up the
coast(S.B.?), according to a friend that was with him part of the time. They ended up in
Seattle ,WA. He said that Davis went to a military store and he bought a pair of military
shoes-he liked military shoes said the former friend.
Due to an accident(both legs were burned-more brain damage?) it seems to have prevented
Davis from entering military service even though he was fascinated with things
military, etc. He took military classes. He came back to CA and worked ,according to parole
records, in Lake Tahoe and said he had a fake drivers liscense. On his way back he stopped
in Harrisburg, PA and worked awhile there. He was a welder and pipefitter by trade.
Later, after a stint in college(he had average to below average grades) he began to take
hard drugs which affected his studies. He took a lot of Zoology;also chemistry, geometry,
algebra(he like art according to his sister-she stopped giving us info when Davis found
out about our inquires and told her to stop-very controlling person)etc. He was very
fascinated with astrology, Scientology, The Process, the occult, science fiction, etc.
He finally moved to Ca in '64 and lived in Anaheim, Buena Park, Newport Beach(hung out at
that beach area) Costa Mesa and finally Riverside.According to a detective he
"dropped out Nov.1966 and became a transient undergrounder".He worked as a Road
Surveyor for a period of time and even did odd jobs.He was a "good mechanic".His
drug use escalated during the '66 period ,according to reports and he was doing speed,
LSD, and a number of other drugs. In '67 he spent ten days in jail for drugs, but he felt
it was unjustified and his anger grew over time.He met Manson Sept.'67 in Seattle and the
rest is history. He obtained a '60 Chevy and when asked in a letter if he ever owned or
drove a Studebaker there was no reply-just answers to all the other questions!I left out a
lot of info -just too much. SORRY for long post!

Howard, Don't be sorry. That was fascinating, and should have been a chapter in your
book, which I still urge everyone to get.
Alot of these things would fit for Zodiac. I do not see cryptology in this background but
as you've written, Davis and Manson had a friend who was an expert in codes.
I've always thought a key to Z's identity lay in the fact that he never sexually assaulted
any of the females victims. This could mean he was either homosexual or a sexual, or as in
the case of the Manson Family, had a plethora of women.
I don't believe he has married in prison, like Watson (fathered 4 kids) and Beausoleil.
At any rate, thank you for more insight into a Zodiac suspect.

hey, i bought your book a couple years ago & i have to say i was woefully disappointed. your case for bruce davis being the zodiac is tenuous at best, but the worst part was having to trudge through all the grammatical and spelling errors. have you hired a proofreader yet? oh, i also liked all those phony "rave reviews" of the book that you guys put on amazon.com under fake names. i also assume that this "sylvie" is probably another fraud designed to drum up interest in your book. to anyone who reads this thread & is genuinely interested in the case, just stick with the information on tom voigt's site. at least here you know words will be spelled correctly & every other sentence won't end with four exclamation points!!!!

RLLewis,
I don't know what you are talking about as I have a pretty clean first edition book-unlike
your disordered post here!
You are probably referring to Bill Nelsons book which does have some info on Zodiac and
Bruce Davis and it is riddled with the kinds of errors you refer to.
Grow Young with HGH is a world class best seller and it is filled with errors, but not
incorrect data.I know Dr. Klatz, the author, and he will make the corrections in the
second edition.Things happen even when you have a major publisher do your
book. We(especially Jim Nelson) did the best we could with little or no funds along with
deadlines, etc. The second edition will be much cleaner, but it is not the book you depict in
your post.
I firmly stand by the content and basic premise of my book and the supplement that comes
with it and stand ready to defend my thesis, even publicly.
I have been a researcher since 1963 and have been on the Z case since 1987 so I am not an
amateur as you are.
No,any "reviews" on my book were there because the authors wanted to place
them.As a matter of fact some of them are uncomplimentary!Did I "plant" them
also?
How do you know that any of them are "plants(they most certainly are NOT)?"Are
you a psychic?Perhaps you are Ms.Cleo and you ain't sayin'!
I was able to trace down at least two of the writers and found ,as one of them admitted to
me, "I only read a few pages of the book at a friends house!"Yet, he refused to
delete the post.Oh yes, he "knows Bruce Davis" and considers him a
"friend".The other "reviewer" couldn't even answer basic questions
about the Zodiac case much less answer to the ignorant comments about my book.
I also know that at least one of them was a Manson sympathizer-and there are many!
Some had my book confused with BILL Nelsons book because my Editor was JIM NELSON and they
weren't bright enough to discern that obvious first name difference;thus they confused the
two books.
Do I discourage criticism?Love it-if it is based on intelligence and experience relative
to the Zodiac case.See my past posts.
Sylvie was contacted by me to help on a special project as she is in an area and place to
assist-and she has done a great job so far.Any comments made by her were of her own
volition. As a matter of fact I posted in reference to her posts and have made what I felt
were 'corrections' to her statements. She or anyone else is free to do the same regarding
my posts.
I do know -and I'm not psychic like you-the other posters won't follow your example and
post with the mental acumen of a third grader replete with attendant errors !!!!Hows that
for "exclamation marks"?Lets get on with the facts of this important case and
leave this kind of drivel alone.

I have not posted for a while as I have been travelling and have not really had the
will as upon return it was brought to my attention that one of my old Bruin chums (a CF
trader) is among the missing. Nevertheless, I keep abreast of the posts and this last one
by an RLewis was so outrageous that it warranted a response. To make a ridiculous
implication that I am not real but "designed" by Howard to drum up interest in
his book would be utterly laughable if it were not so disrespectful to 1)me 2)Howard Davis
whose illustrious credentials far exceed most on this board and 3)Tom Voight for
insinuating that he has been communicating with a figment of Howard's imagination all this
time. I have often disagreed with many on this board, even Howard, but I highly doubt that
anyone is silly enough to think that I am not real.
At the risk of another lunatic declaring that I am a "creation", I will
reiterate -- Howard's book is most interesting and informative, I also urge everyone who
has not yet done so to get TV's Z video, read and reread Douglas Oswell's site, explore
the ingenious Batman Connection, and by all means go through all the posts. And NO, I am
not "designed" by any of the repective fore-mentioned.

Sylvie,
I have just doubled the check! That post was worth your monthly payoff for posts
rendered!Keep working on those friends of yours to see if they will post too!Don't tell
Lewis though.

I found the place where there is multiple exclamation marks. They are on pages 71 and
73 where I QUOTE Zodiac when he writes"...so lonely I could do my
Thing!!!!!!"11/8/69.
The same quote is on page 73,so I guess Lewis is correct.Darn why can't I ever win on this
Board-it's not fair.
Lewis-just having some fun.Keep posting what you wish, but if I think it is incorrect I
will answer in my own way.
Lets just stick to the case ;we are all equal here and interested in case resolution and
no matter how it comes out,as long as it's solved, I and the other posters-will be
thrilled -no matter who is involved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Beat that!

A couple of things to say about the ZMC site. On the home page there is now an Updates
link to a page that lists where any recent changes or additions have been made and a
direct link to them. One of those currently is to the first public viewing of Cheri Jo
Bates' autopsy report which debunks RPD's claim that she was stabbed 42 times.
Tom: I have now seen what the problem is that Netscape users have when trying to view the
site.
So I'll be checking into that. Apparently the previous maintainer of the site never
addressed the problem or even knew of it. My appologies to all other Netscape users and
I'll take care of things as soon as I can.
