Some Connection With The Victims? Message Board: Theories: Some Connection With The Victims?

By Terri H (Terri) ( - on Sunday, April 01, 2001 - 09:16 am:

Has anyone ever checked when the victims got their drivers licenses? The first victims were only 16, 17, the second victimes were 16 and 18, both the next victims were 20 (at the age of getting their licenses renewed). Then there is Paul Stine, 29 - who could have gotten his license when he was 17 or maybe had to get a special license for driving a taxi.

Sorry for the typo. (victimes, should be victims).

The second victims were not "16 and 18."
Darlene Ferrin was 22, Mike Mageau 19.

The third victims were ages 22 and 20.

I went according to the pics...shottie investigative work...but maybe a good idea anyway?

terri any connection of the victims is a good idea, however far reaching it is. did they all
go to the same movie theatre? did they baby sit for the same person? did they go to the same church? etc.....maybe you could get on the VPD with work such as that.

By Terri H (Terri) ( - on Monday, April 02, 2001 - 09:29 am:

I see your point.

But, you cannot get people's birthdates or social security numbers, addresses, etc. by going to the same church or movie theatre, etc.

Zoe, Terri: there were no connections between any of Z' victims as far as anyone knows. There is the claim that Darlene Ferrin knew all the early victims, but there is really nothing that proves that contention (except for Mike Mageau, of course).

It's been said that Betty Lou Jensen babysat for Darlene, that Darlene met Cheri Jo Bates in Riverside in ca. 1965, that Paul Stine used to drive her around San Francisco in his cab, and there is no explanation that I've heard as to how she knew Cecelia Ann Shepard nor David Faraday. It's even been claimed that Darlene Ferrin was at a Christmas party on LHR on 12-20-1968, but there is no proof of that either.

Now, Darlene might have known a cab driver in SF, but he cannot possibly have been Paul Stine. He apparently was an insurance salesman when Darlene lived there, and he became a cabbie in August 1969, a month after Z murdered her.

I think these "connections" should be considered as part of the Z mythology, and should not be confused with the facts (until such time as they can be proven).

terri, is there some importance to the numbers?

By Terri H (Terri) ( - on Wednesday, April 04, 2001 - 01:31 pm:

Ed, I may have misunderstood you. Are you saying that we should not waste time looking at any connection amongst the victims themselves? What about the connection between zodiac and the victims? (the "missing link" that could tell us HOW/WHY he chose his victims).

Are the on-going investigations being done following the same protocol as when it was looked into years ago? If so, I can see why everyone keeps going in circles. Zodiac apparently was very in tune with this protocol and knew this was going to happen and that is why he was so very confident about being "crackproof" and still remains more than one step ahead.

Zoe, I am not sure...yet.

Terri: no, I'm not saying that. What I am saying is that there is no proof, but it certainly couldn't hurt to check that angle out, and perhaps show that there might be something more to the rumors. One just never knows; in fact, if it can be shown that there was a definite link between the victims (ie, they were all friends or something), this would put an entirely different spin on the case.

Harry Martin, the wannabe Z-investigator who publishes a rag known as The Napa Sentinel seemed to push that idea for a while, then ultimately ignored that in favor of his "theory" that Donna Lass was the focus of the Z crimes and that Robert Hunter Jr had Larry Kane kill her so she could not inherit Hunter Sr's money, and all the other murders were just static to make the poor, dumb, overworked cops think there was an insane, moronic serial killer on the loose. Hunter Jr eventually gets all the money, he helps get Kane a job with the Las Vegas mob as a hitman, and everyone lives happily ever after (except the victims). I suppose it's appropriate his bullsh*t "theory" was published in his own rag. BTW, thank God the good people of Napa had the sense to vote for someone else as mayor in the recent elections!

As far as Z knowing each of the victims, the only one who seems likely is Darlene Ferrin. However, there were apparently a lot of men who looked similar in her life, and there was also at least one man who stalked her. Whether this was Z or not, it's hard to say. Graysmith put that spin on it, but then, he's in the business of selling books, and anything that makes the story more interesting is what gets printed.

This could just be a shot in the dark but maybe he was a photographer that had taken portraits of them all?
