Police Trace Last Day of Slain Girl

San Francisoc homicide investigators said last
night they had traced the movements of Angela Thomas,
the 16-year-old girl whose nude body was found near
a junior high school Monday, up to 9 p.m. of the
night before.

Miss Thomas, who lived in Belton, Tex., was last
seen in the Presidio of San Francisco. Her father,
an Army master sergeant, had been stationed there
until five months ago, when he was transferred to

Miss Thomas had spent Sunday horseback riding in
Hayward with friends who took her to the Presidio
in the evening.

She had gone to the home of a girl friend, only
to learn that the friend was out for the evening, then
went to the home of another friend, who was also out.
The second friend's mother told police that after
informing Miss Thomas of this, the girl left, but she
did not know what her destination was.

Her body was found early Monday near Benjamin
Franklin Junior High School. The only evidence,
police said, was a locket near the body. Miss Thomas
had been strangled.

Miss Thomas had been visiting a San Francisco
friend, Sharon McManus, of 121 Shakespeare street.

One of my favorite parts of this website ,Tom is the "posible"zodiac victims.Seems something all
3 of these latest victims have in common was that they were newcomers to the Bay area.Perhaps the killer -whoever he was- preffered to kill comparative strangers to the area.He might have thought there would be less interest in solving the cases.I read somewhere Ed Kemper used to "profile"his vicims like that.Listening for accents etc.
Also a lot of these unsolved female homicides where nurses or other medical proffesionals?
A fetish or was the kiler a medical man?

I think the reasons for a disproportionate number of nurses among female homocides from that period of time are several: Nurses work odd hours and often travel to or from work in the dark. Working women in general are more vulnerable as they are out of the house regularly, and a killer can note the routine. At the decade in question, if a woman worked outside the home the chances were better than even that she was either a secretary, a teacher or a nurse. FInally, nurses do regularly work around people like alcoholics and drug abusers, people prone to violence and the frankly mentally ill. Add these all up and I think that accounts for the victimology. It is alwo why my wife, a nurse for 20 years, has her concealed carry permit and uses it!
